One platform, two sides of the same transaction.
A leading UK insurer and a leading UK broker are both live on Smartek Takaful today — connected through the same straight-through processing flow, each using it from their own side.
Company names withheld at both customers' request. Every detail below reflects live, current usage.
What each side actually uses
The insurer and the broker aren't using two separate systems that happen to talk to each other — they're both live on the same platform, from opposite ends of the same request.
A leading UK insurer
- Receives risk requests through the broker distribution API
- Requests evaluated automatically against the pricing and underwriting rule engine
- Qualifying business auto-approved, with the policy schedule generated instantly
- Anything outside defined parameters routed to manual underwriting review
- Full audit trail of every automated and reviewed decision
A leading UK broker
- Submits new risk requests directly from their own system, via API — no email, no re-keying
- Receives the decision back through the same API — approved with policy schedule, or referred for review
- For mid-term adjustments, can use either their own system via API or log into Smartek's broker portal directly — their choice
- The same rule engine evaluates MTA requests, whichever channel they arrive through
How one request crosses both sides
Broker submits
The broker submits a risk request directly from their own system, through the API.
Insurer receives & validates
The request is validated and a structured risk record is created on the insurer's side.
Rule engine evaluates
Property limit, pricing indices, building condition, claims history, and renewal loyalty are all checked against configured thresholds.
Decision returns to the broker
Qualifying requests are approved and the policy schedule is generated immediately. Everything else is routed to a human underwriter first.
MTAs offer a choice of channel
Unlike new business, which is API-only, mid-term adjustments can be submitted either through the broker's own API integration or directly via Smartek's broker portal — evaluated by the same rule engine either way.
The integration works because both sides actually use it
It's one thing to say an API connects a broker and an insurer. It's another for a leading broker and a leading insurer to both run real, live business through it every day. This isn't a theoretical integration — it's the actual channel both sides work through.

Smart Sat: damage assessment, from above
Smart Sat turns satellite imagery into a claims ready damage assessment, not just a picture to interpret yourself. Findings link directly into the risk and claims records already held in the Smartek Reinsurance Platform and the Takaful platform, so a damage assessment from Smart Sat becomes part of the same record an underwriter or claims handler is already working from.
